Glass
Brendon Jaine Glass Jewellery
Brendon Jaine (Buzz) has worked with glass his whole life, but for the last 15 years has been making jewellery full time. He lives in Invercargill with his three kids, and makes all of the pieces in his workshop at the back of his house out of discarded glass bottles and tableware.
Part of the attraction of the glasswork to Buzz is the reclamation of material that would otherwise go to landfill. In Buzz’s workshop, discarded glass is transformed into satiny, smooth, individual pieces of jewellery. The ocean, the big sky, and the landscapes Buzz lives in are apparent in the fluidity and colours of his work. Recently Buzz been hand-drawing fantastical landscapes, influenced by the spectacular vistas of Central Otago, and sandblasting them into glass.

Burnt Offerings
Ngaire from Burnt Offerings specialises in up-cycling second-hand finds by etching glass, mirror, stone and burning onto wood, creating one-off unique pieces of art.
She uses a lot of New Zealand native animals and plants in their designs, and because she uses mainly second-hand finds, no two pieces are ever the same and each piece tells its own story.
- Ngaire uses a hot wire to burn onto wood by hand and can burn onto most woods except custom wood, treated wood and bamboo. The wood needs to be sanded clean before she can burn.
- Ngaire uses a diamond tip connected to a compressor to etch onto stone, mirror and glass
She also does commissions, working on a piece you own or sourcing a piece to fit your requirements.

Captain Ukuleles
Bevan is the owner of Captain Ukuleles, he has been playing the ukulele (under sufferance) since joining the Big Muffin Serious Band as a fresh-faced (poxy) teenager late last century. Eventually, his hands turned to the construction of ukuleles, with an emphasis on exploring the (largely unexplored) native woods and their uses in instrument making.
Bevan is also a music teacher and has a recording studio in the small rural settlement of Te Pahu, Waikato.
The Wood:
New Zealand has many endemic species that are perfect for instrument making. Some of the timbers make great tonewoods, like Mangeao, Kohekohe, Matai and Kauri. Others are ideal for fretboards and bridges, especially Puriri and Pohutukawa. Tawa is ideal for necks due to its stability and medium density. Rewarewa makes a lovely back, with book matching showing off the remarkable grain and medullary rays. On each Captain ukulele, there will be up to eight different kinds of wood, making it both a musical instrument and a piece of interesting art, with links to our botanical history.

Carvings & sculpture
Carved Creations
My name is Aaron Ellis-Smith. I was born in New Zealand and live in Mangawhai, a coastal town on the east coast of the north island, 1 hour south of Whangarei.
I began carving in 2004 and have always loved timber. I carve most types of wood (and occasionally other mediums), but find swamp kauri the most enjoyable timber to sculpt. Something about it’s character, age (this can range from 2000 to 50,000 years old), feeling and uniqueness to New Zealand inspires me. I also enjoy New Zealand’s native forest, and perhaps part of the reason I love swamp kauri is, although it is a finite resource, it doesn’t require damage to, or the felling of our wonderful native forest.
Carving is something I enjoy doing, being a part of a pieces evolution into final form is something I never get tired of. I hope that those who see my work gain as much pleasure from the pieces, as I received creating them.

Charity Tea
Charity Tea started with a single call from a friend working for a non-profit organisation in Haiti. She told Gill (Charity Tea Founder) about a baby girl who had been abandoned at the local hospital in Les Cayes, Haiti.
Unable to forget this call, Gill decided to make this “her problem” and sent money to feed the child for a year. Within a few days, she heard about 6 more hungry children. She learnt that in Haiti many children only had 1 or 2 meals a day. These meals often lacked proper nutrients. More so, she learnt that food was not provided to children in the hospital. Children that were abandoned or had no one to feed them simply had to go hungry.
She started Ten18 International (www.ten18International.com), a charity that raises money in New Zealand to support hungry children here at home, and in Haiti.
To help raise funds for the work of Ten18 International Gill also launched Charity Tea – a luxury brand of loose-leaf organic tea; health-promoting blends that nourish the drinker and nourish hungry children. Revenue from sales of Charity Tea supports our charitable purposes.
Charity Tea currently partner with the Kai Kitchen Trust in New Zealand to support their school lunch programmes, and we partner with Little footprints Big Steps in Haiti to run feeding programmes.
Founder of Charity Tea and Ten18 International; Gill Bredl is a passionate and dedicated social entrepreneur. She is the founder of Charity Tea, a luxury organic loose leaf tea brand that uses its revenue to address issues of world hunger. She is community and inclusion focussed; passionate about social justice and ethical trade. She has 3 wonderful children and a dog; and enjoys movies, reading, beach walks and learning the violin.

Close to the Heart brings you breastfeeding clothes that are beautiful, practical and affordable. The family business is owned and operated by Michele, Jacqui, and Alex with 8 kiddies between them.
Breastfeeding is something very close to their hearts, they love that it’s the one thing you can do for your baby that no one else can do. For years they struggled to find breastfeeding clothes that they liked. There are some beautiful ranges out there, but the styles just weren’t right. So the idea was born, why not make it themselves!
They believe maintaining a sense of self is key as a mum, and what you wear can directly impact how you feel. So wear clothes that you love, that you feel great in, and then just include links to breastfeeding. It’s surprisingly straightforward, actually!
