The Backpod was invented by Steve August, a Dunedin physiotherapist with 30 years’ experience in treating spines. It’s is manufactured in Christchurch and sold worldwide.
The Backpod’s small peaked shape will stretch tight rib joints, which limit the air you can get into your lungs. It can help with chronic Asthma, rib pain in Pregnancy, Costochondritis, and athletic performance.
The Backpod has won several New Zealand and international awards, including a prestigious invitation-only German Design Council award.

Each board is shaped and handcrafted from laminated NZ – grown pine. Finally they are lacquered with either a natural or whitewash oil/resin finish.
Jane is the owner of The Mother Hood. As a mother, she knows that motherhood is one of the greatest things in life, it can be one of the hardest.
Jane felt alone at home with a toddler and a newborn when she had her second baby. She wanted to hang out with other mums, but it was often too much to arrange naps, feeds, and even just the idea of trying to get out of the house. So she started an online group called ‘The Mother Hood for moms’. This group was a godsend, with two small children. She was able to interact with other mums who knew what she was going through and could relate to it.
Fast forward 5 years and The Mother Hood has now grown into a website, a shop and a blog.
But the core values still remain the same. It is all about supporting and helping mums through the journey that is motherhood.
